Who is Madame Alana?
Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, I attended French immersion school from kindergarten to grade 13, graduating with a bilingual diploma. I majored in French and English in college, spending a semester at Laval University in the intensive French program, and earned a B.Ed. from Ottawa U. and an MA in applied language studies from Carleton University. I have an Ontario teaching degree, and have taught preschool, elementary, and middle school, adult ESL, and spent two years teaching English in Japan. My experiences learning French and Japanese primarily through immersion guide my teaching methodology. I strive to make learning a second language as natural as possible, using songs, games, speaking activities, real world situations, drama, props, and anything else that motivates my students to focus on using the target language without inhibitions.
